Enjoy Hiking And Fresh Verdure! Start Of The Mountain-Climbing Season At Tamba Sasayama In May

Enjoy a View of the Mountains in the Tamba Sasayama Area

May is the beginning of the mountain-climbing season. The mountains of Tamba Sasayama are opened to the public every May. At the Tamba Sasayama Yamabiraki (Tamba Sasayama start of mountain-climbing season) events, challenges are offered to four different mountains: Taki Renzan, Yajurogatake, Oyasan, and Miyama.

The Taki Renzan Yamabiraki has two courses both heading to the summit of Mitake (793 m), the main peak of the Taki Alps. The front course starts from the Taki Renzan Parking Lot in Hiuchiwan, Sasayama. The west course starts from Kurikara Kenko Hiroba in Kurikara, Sasayama. A rare plant called the Japanese primrose can be seen growing in colonies during this season exclusively.

The Yajurogatake Yamabiraki is an attack to the peak of Yajurogatake (715 m), located southeast of Tamba Sasayama. The slope is gentle, and the course is easy to climb for families. This route starts from Hohokabe Shrine in Miyanomae, Sasayama, and climbs up the Yakushigahara course.

1.5-2 Hour Courses For Beginners

The Oyasan Tozan starting point is the Tamba Sasayama Keikoku no Mori Park in Shitsukawakami, Sasayama. The trail climbs Oyasan (753 m), located between Sasayama and Inagawa. The mountain, which is home to the source of the Inagawa River, is also designated as Inagawa Keikoku Prefectural Natural Park.

The MIyama Tozan is a challenge to the top of Miyama (791 m), a mountain covering three prefectures: Osaka, Kyoto, and Hyogo. It starts in Sasayama no Mori Park in Kawara, Sasayama, and heads toward the mountain trail. At the summit is Miyama Shrine. From here you can enjoy a view of the Taki Alps, the Rokko Renzan mountains in southeastern Hyogo, Oyasan, and Yajurogatake.

Both courses are hikes around 1.5-2 hours. Come and enjoy the natural surroundings of Tamba Sasayama. Don’t forget to bring your lunch and a water bottle!
